Description
This vintage French Art Deco ceramic set, comprising a rectangular tray, a lidded vessel and an elegant small cup, was made by the noted artist and chemist Paul Milet (1870–1950) in Sèvres. Its unusual combination of glazes is technically demanding: the exteriors and tray edges have a black-and-white “crispe” or crinkled-effect glaze, creating a raised, granular texture. In contrast, the interiors and the centre of the tray are finished in a deep, lustrous emerald-green glaze, a hallmark of Milet’s work. The pieces have disciplined yet graceful geometric forms that exemplify the luxurious French Art Deco aesthetic of the 1930s.
The set is in good vintage condition, and the glossy green surfaces retain their lustre. It is a distinctive designer piece for an Art Deco collection or interior.
Dimensions: 29 × 3 cm, 16 × 13 cm and 7 × 7 cm.
