Description
This hand-painted porcelain plate by Herend belongs to the elegant “Chinese Bouquet Raspberry” series, also known as “Apponyi Purpur”, among the best-known designs in Hungarian decorative art. A stylised peony takes centre stage, accompanied by delicate flowers and scattered leaves. The rim has a traditional basketweave relief, smaller floral motifs and 24-carat gold accents. The design’s origins reach back to the nineteenth century; it took its present name and form in the 1930s, when it was simplified for the Hungarian Count Albert Apponyi. Fine white porcelain, precise hand-painting and the harmonious combination of raspberry-purple and gold lend it an aristocratic elegance suited to both formal table settings and display.
The plate is in impeccable condition. Its glossy glaze shows no signs of wear and the gilding remains even and bright. It would make a striking accent in a home or collection.
Diameter: approximately 26 cm.
