Pair of Sèvres-style decorative plates “Imperial Scenes”

This vintage pair of decorative plates draws on French porcelain and historical painting traditions, with the opulent aesthetic associated with the Sèvres manufactory. At the centre of each plate is a hand-painted composition depicting an eighteenth-century military scene. The figurative scenes contrast with broad, deep cobalt-blue borders richly ornamented with raised gold-coloured scrollwork, floral motifs and classical details. Handwritten markings on the reverse distinguish the individual pieces, while the careful brushwork gives the figures character and visual depth.
