Description
This vintage hand-painted porcelain sculpture of a young man in traditional dress was made by the Hungarian porcelain house Hollóháza in the second half of the twentieth century. The figure wears a Matyó regional costume with broad, flowing white sleeves outlined in red. A detailed, colourful geometric and floral pattern decorates the front of the apron, while a tall black hat completes the ensemble. The matte treatment of the face contrasts with the glossy glaze elsewhere, a characteristic effect in mid-century Hungarian porcelain.
The sculpture is in impeccable vintage condition. The white porcelain has no cracks, chips or glaze losses, and the hand-painted decoration remains vivid and well defined. It would bring a subtle note of European folk art to an interior.
Height: approximately 26 cm.
